Marriage Information

HOW TO APPLY
Both parties must appear at the Recorder's Office with proper identification. Consenting parents must appear with applicants under age 18.

WHEN TO APPLY
Office hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday except legal holidays. Time should be allowed for completion of the application process (arriving no later than 3:45 p.m.). Applicants may apply for a marriage license and the Recorder of Deeds’ Office may issue said license all in the same day. The license MUST be used within 30 days of the issuance of the license. The license must be paid for in CASH at the time of application. The fee is currently $51. The Recorder's Office cannot take a check for payment of marriage license fees.

PROOF OF AGE-IDENTIFICATION
Identification is required of ALL parties. The following documents will be accepted:

Age 15 through 17 - birth certificate (legal certified) or driver's license AND custodial parent to give consent.

Age 18 and Over - Driver's license.

Consenting Parents - Driver's license and, if divorced, court papers to prove custody.

Parents must give consent in person at the time of application. They must also present proper identification and if divorced, proof of custody.

Previously married applicants must give the date their last marriage ended. Divorced individuals may not apply until their divorce has been final for a minimum of 30 days.

WHAT TO DO WITH THE LICENSE
The license should be delivered to the officator who performs the ceremony. The officiator must complete the bottom of the license, sign, have the witness sign it, then return it to the Recorder's office in the envelope provided within 15 days after the wedding. The license is then recorded and remains on file permanently in the Recorder's office. If, for any reason, the license is not used or expires before being used, the license MUST be returned to the Recorder's office marked "UNUSED".

OBTAINING PROOF OF YOUR MARRIAGE
After the return and recordation of the marriage license, proof of your marriage is available upon request. A certified copy of the marriage license is $9. A marriage certification card prepared by office staff with the basic marriage information and the Recorder's signature and seal is $2. Again, these services are provided with cash being the only form of payment.
